Our bikes are built with Trax Fatty 3" tires and this bike is faster than any other Fat Bike around. You say why? Here is why and why we are making a newly designed tire. A standard Fat Bike 26" tire has these issues; it has why too much side wall which makes it much heavier. The new tire we are making, we took the 3" tire and flattened it out and it is about 7¼ " wide. We are making the new tire about 1/2" wider to between 7 3/4" to 7 7/8" in width, this will only add about 50 gms to the tires. We used the same tread design just spread it out to 4.5" of tread. This means we have wrapped the tread around some of the sidewall of the tire. This will allow, with full inflation, only a small amount of tread used but at 10PSI which is where people race you will have the whole 4.5" of tread with less than 1000 gms weight (about 970 gms).
If you do the math, the 26" fat tires have a diameter of about 29", where the 29er like we propose and the current have about (now only 30 ½” diameter ± and future about 30 ¾” diameters). This means with the lighter weight and less rotational weight and resistance you use less effort to rotate this bikes wheel system and if you use math the circumference is 1 ¾” additional diameter times Pi (3.14) or 5.5" more travel per rotation. Taking more math and using the fact that most riders do about 100 RPM’s, putting bike in the 38T front and say a 13T to 15T rear you get about 2.7 wheel or tire rotations per riders rotation. 2.7 times 5.5" times 100 RPM you get about 1,485 more inches per min or 124 feet. This times 60 mins in one hour you get 7,440 feet per hour or 1.4 miles. This means that our tire and wheel system will do about 1.4 more MPH than any Fat Tire 26" wheel will do with less effort.
